To honor the legacy of our friend and fellow FIBCA member for over 30 years, an annual $5,000 scholarship has been established. The Cindy Finley Memorial Scholarship (CFMS) to Support Women in the Packaging Industry will be awarded for the upcoming school year to a woman looking to pursue a career in the packaging industry. This scholarship aims to support students who are interested in and working towards a career in the aerospace industry, with an emphasis on those who contribute to the diversity of the industry. The American Indian Medical Scholarship (AIMS) gives students of American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Hawaiian Native descent the opportunity to pursue careers in nursing, healthcare, and health education. As a result, there is a disparity in care which can lead to increased pain, longer waiting times, and even the loss of life. The Joy and Justice in Mathematics Teaching and Learning (J-Squared) Project is a collaboration of the Wheelock College of Education and Human Development and the College of Arts and Sciences at Boston University and school districts in the Boston area. This program focuses on preparing teachers to facilitate meaningful mathematical discourse in the classroom while simultaneously increasing students’ critical consciousness of issues of racism and other social injustices. J-Squared scholars experience a rich, hands-on, inquiry-based teacher preparation program and work closely with teachers, mathematics educators, mathematicians and students. The J-Squared Project provides 100% tuition scholarships to individuals with backgrounds either in mathematics or related STEM fields to a one-year Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree program. The degree program leads to licensure to teach secondary mathematics. Once teaching, J-Squared scholars will be supported through summer and academic-year workshops, seminars, and mentoring. She encouraged young, passionate nursing assistants to go forward and earn their registered nursing (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN) degrees. She passed away in February 2023, but her legacy lives on through all those she impacted throughout her life. The Sara Jane Memorial Scholarship will honor her life and support a student as they earn their RN or LPN degree. High school seniors and undergraduate students are eligible to apply if they are pursuing a career as an RN or LPN and have volunteer experience. Alternatively, are you a secondary-school Journalism teacher attending a degree program to improve your Journalism teaching skills? If either applies, consider applying for the Future Journalism Teacher Scholarships! Each year, the scholarship awards two lucky applicants $1,000 to go towards their education in Journalism. In order to apply, you must submit a 250-word essay, the online application, two letters of recommendation, and your college transcripts. The scholarships are funded by the Journalism Education Association, a US-based national organization for teachers and advisers of journalism.
