The ConnectHER Film Festival is an international youth competition that welcomes short films about issues that impact women and girls. Filmmakers must be 13 to 25 years old at the submission date. That means that scripts, storyboards, directing, cinematography, editing, etc., must be done by people who meet this age requirement. Actors can be any age. Films must be 3 to 6 minutes long. All films must be subtitled in English. Any gender can submit a film as long as the topic addresses critical issues related to advancing women and girls.

The NSHSS Passion for Public Service Scholarship is for high school NSHSS (National Society of High School Scholars) members who are passionate about public service. “Public service” can take many forms, including, but not limited to, urban planning, environmental protection, emergency services/first responders, or even military service and public education. Those who are public servants are integral parts of everyday communities. Thus, each year, the NSHSS Passion for Public Service Scholarship awards $1,000 to three (3) high school students dedicated to public service.

During her career, Catrina helped people throughout multiple communities. Her passion was justice should be accessible, of which, Catrina made a reality for many. She always felt that no matter where a person was born or which family they were born into, it would never play into whether she would care. She was brilliant and generous to all. In her teenage years, Catrina volunteered at the US Holocaust Museum. While in University, she was able to visit Ghana to see how women worked, spent one summer in Guatemala interviewing indigenous peoples, and took coursework in France. She was fluent in three languages. This scholarship seeks to honor Catrina’s legacy by supporting students pursuing a degree in law or healthcare. With the goal to help them accomplish greater things, this scholarship will allow them to cast their circle beyond. Any first-generation student in college or graduate school who is interested in law and/or healthcare may apply for this scholarship.

The greatest gift Chris had was that he always made the time to not just talk to you, but to be in that moment with you. He made you feel important because you had his full and undivided attention when you spoke to him, and he would always be the first to ask how he could help. Chris was also an amazing father to his daughters Abby and Lily, a doting husband to his wife Karen, and a great friend to many people. What most people don't know about Chris is how much he struggled to afford his degree in his early years. That degree ultimately helped him build a rewarding and impactful career in technology. Sadly, Chris passed away in the fall of 2020. To honor his spirit and legacy, the Chris Jackson Computer Science Education Scholarship will support undergraduate students who are pursuing a computer science degree. The scholarship will be awarded twice a year. Born December 17, 1922 in Athens, Illinois, Vincent T. Wasilewski would become the 18th President of the National Association of Broadcasters in January 1965. Wasilewski entered the University Of Illinois College Of Engineering in 1940, but World War II would interrupt his studies. He served in the US Air Force from September 1942 until October 1945, and returned to the University at the close of the war. He switched to political science and received his bachelor’s degree in 1948, followed by a degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence the following year. Wasilewski joined the NAB’s legal staff in 1949, where he spent his entire professional career. Like any true broadcaster, Wasilewski was no stranger to public service, having served on the Board of Directors of the Advertising Council, the Advisory Council on Federal Reports and the American Advertising Federation. The George Voron Company of Philadelphia made electronic test equipment and installed and serviced communications and background music systems, supplying programming for the latter. They built some of the components used in their 1959 construction of WQAL FM in Wyndmoor, PA. Abe Voron was installed as station manager and young Dave Custis, working without pay, assembled a record library and fashioned programming for its November 11 debut. “It was really fun,” reports Custis, ” I could play whatever I wanted,” sometimes even records from his own collection. His format was “very loose”, “a mixture of instrumental music and syrupy popular music of that era” apparently aimed at adults but not entirely excluding hit recordings. With very little publicity, the station attracted an audience which within two years exceeded that of other Philadelphia area FMs. Stereo operations began in 1962.

John Bayliss was one of the best friends the broadcast industry ever had. He adored radio because it suited so well his desire to serve, and to interact with, other people. He was as much in awe of the medium as he was a master of it. In his 25 years of radio management and sales, he established an enviable record of performance and profitability. From October, 1976 to February, 1980, Mr. Bayliss was president of Gannett Broadcasting’s radio division. During his tenure, the division was involved in 15 station transactions, and he earned Hall Radio Report nominations for Radio Executive of the Year and Group Executive of the Year in 1977 and 1978.

Peter B. Orlik was founder and a member of Central Michigan University’s Broadcast & Cinematic Arts program from 1969 to his retirement in 2017. A native of Hancock, Michigan, he earned his PhD from Wayne State University in 1968 after serving as a Mass Communications Instructor for three years. Selected for BEA’s 2001 Distinguished Education Service Award he also was admitted into CMU’s Media Hall of Fame in 2024. In 2003, Orlik was inducted into the Michigan Broadcasting Hall of Fame and is the author of five textbooks. Now that he’s retired, he has returned to his first love, the clarinet, and plays in a local band. Currently, he sits as BEA’s Scholarship Committee Chair, continuing to uplift students and providing them with pathways to their future.

Richard Eaton was chairman of United Broadcasting Co., which owned and operated 17 radio stations He pioneered black-oriented radio programming in the United States by establishing WOOK in Silver Spring in 1947. He also operated the first Cuban-oriented radio station in Miami and the first Japanese-language TV station in Honolulu. Before launching United Broadcasting, Eaton was a weekly newspaper publisher, a radio news commentator for WINX in Washington, D.C., and a reporter for the Mutual Broadcasting radio network.

After 23 years as Chief Executive Officer at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Edward O. Fritts launched The Fritts Group to offer a personalized approach to government relations and public affairs. Always an entrepreneur, Eddie previously owned a Mississippi-based media company prior to assuming leadership of the NAB. As a result of Eddie’s direction, the NAB became known as one of the most respected and effective lobbying organizations in the nation. In recognition of his achievements, Eddie has received several national honors, including the 2011 Distinguished Service Award from the NAB. He was named as one of the Giants of Broadcasting from the Library of American Broadcasting in 2010 and has been inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame and the Alumni Hall of Fame at the University of Mississippi.

The Library of American Broadcasting Foundation (LABF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of broadcasting and other electronic media, reflecting the present and informing the future. The Division 18 Lived Experience Fund Dissertation Research Grant supports a doctoral student in clinical, counseling, or community psychology with lived experience who is doing their dissertation in a topic area related to peer support, survivor research, the c/s/x movement, disclosure of lived experience, or other projects in the general area focused on lived experience. Eligibility - Applicants must be current doctoral students in the process of completing their dissertations.

The NSHSS Foundation STEM Scholarship is an amazing opportunity for college-bound high school students who have a demonstrated desire to major in or pursue a degree in STEM or a related field. Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW’s) premier scholarship program. Friends of Zayne Adams -aka- FOZA, Inc. is committed to supporting children who are left behind. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has lost a mother due to a maternal suicide related to postpartum depression. Suicide related to maternal mental illness typically occurs during late pregnacy and up to a year after child birth. The Peter Kong-ming New Student Research Competition, held annually by the Society for Applied Anthropology, celebrates outstanding student research in the applied social and behavioral sciences. This prestigious award honors Peter Kong-ming New, a distinguished medical sociologist-anthropologist and former SfAA president, whose work focused on applying the social sciences to address critical issues in health care and human services. - Open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled during the calendar year prior to the award presentation. - Doctorate holders are ineligible. - Submissions must be single-authored and based on original, unpublished field research in the social sciences. - First and second-place winners are not eligible for future competitions.

The Lillian Moller Gilbreth Memorial Scholarship was established by the Society’s Board of Trustees in 1958. It honors a woman often called the “First Lady of Engineering.” She inspired many young ladies in engineering with delightful stories, charm, fortitude and forward thinking Dr. Gilbreth, an honorary SWE member, was familiar to the public as the wife and mother in the books and movies Cheaper by the Dozen (she was the mother of 12 children) and Belles on Their Toes. She married Frank Bunker Gilbreth in 1904 and collaborated with him as pioneers in the field of time and motion studies. Lillian Gilbreth combined the perspectives of an engineer, a psychologist, a wife, and a mother; she helped industrial engineers see the importance of the psychological dimensions of work. She became the first American engineer ever to create a synthesis of psychology and scientific management.

The fellowship can be used to support research and study related to the archaeology of Portugal, including the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira. This includes, but is not limited to, excavations, research projects, colloquia, symposia, publications, and travel for research or to academic meetings for the purpose of presenting papers on the archaeology of Portugal. The fellowship honors the memory of John R. Coleman, whose premature death deprived the field of a scholar of unusual integrity and promise. John R. Coleman graduated magna cum laude at Harvard University, held a Fulbright Fellowship at the University of Bonn, and pursued graduate study at Princeton University. He excavated at Aphrodisias and Morgantina. The Coleman Fellowship is to be used for travel and study in Italy, the western Mediterranean, or North Africa, between July 1 of the award year and the following June 30. The award may not support field excavation projects, nor may AIA fellowship funds be used for institutional overhead, administrative recovery costs, or indirect costs.

The Norman S. Baldwin Fishery Science scholarship is intended to promote academic excellence by encouraging young scientists to undertake graduate research in fishery biology and to enter the field of Great Lakes science. The scholarship is awarded annually to promising M.Sc. or Ph.D. students whose research is likely to make a significant contribution to the understanding of Great Lakes fishery science. An applicant for the Churchill Scholarship must be a citizen of the United States, either native-born or naturalized, and must be enrolled in one of the Participating Institutions and due to graduate during the same academic year as the deadline or be a student who has graduated from one of those institutions within the past 12 months before the deadline. Upon taking up the Churchill Scholarship, a Churchill Scholar must hold a bachelor’s degree. Outstanding academic achievement. Understanding the time commitment required by research, the Churchill Foundation does not seek so-called “well-rounded applicants”; instead, it seeks applicants with what we call interesting “jagged edges.” The Committee takes into account interests and achievements outside of research, but it does not favor any particular kind of activity.

As part of its commitment, Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation wants to engage and reward students who have made a significant impact against hunger and are driving awareness and mobilizing youth to be catalysts for innovative models and solutions to eliminate childhood hunger. The Trudgers Fund is aimed at supporting students as they strive for success in school and in their personal lives after struggling with addiction. This scholarship is for low-income undergraduate students who have experienced struggles with their own alcohol/drug addiction, have taken time away from or never pursued higher education, and are seeking to obtain an undergraduate degree to enhance their lives.
