The Jeffrey L. Esser Career Development Scholarship, established by the GFOA Executive Board in 2017, supports individuals pursuing careers in public finance. The objective of the Paul A. Volcker Government Internship Award is to open the door to careers in public service and help NextGen Service Corps students gain vital skills to better serve their communities and nation. The Paul A. Volcker Government Internship Award provides funding to NextGen Service Corps (NextGen Service) students participating in an internship with local, state, or federal government. We designed this scholarship to help students pay for college and it may be used to pay for tuition or any related fees such as room and board. The first prize is $1,000. Purpose We know our scholarship recipients face many barriers, such as access to housing, food, and transportation. COVID-19 and its effects have only exacerbated these needs; many students depended on campus resources such as dormitories, food pantries, and mental health services that they are currently unable to access. The Student Assistance Fund will provide one-time cash assistance to eligible students to assist with needs that would otherwise hinder them from completing their academic program. Amount & Use of Funds Students may request and be awarded up to $500 per application. Students may receive support once per year, and apply a maximum of four times or the number of years remaining in their academic program, whichever is greater. After being admitted, all transfer students are required to send final transcripts to MSU. The following transfer scholarships will be awarded based on transcripts submitted to MSU by: May 31: for students starting fall semester December 31: for students starting spring semester Any transcripts submitted after these dates will not be considered when awarding transfer scholarships. Transfer scholarships are not awarded for students starting in the summer semester. This award of $1,500 or $2,500 annually goes to students transferring to MSU with a minimum of 28 transfer hours from a regionally accredited institution and a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA. Students receiving a Spartan Transfer Scholarship may also be eligible for the Associate Achievement Award and other MSU scholarship awards, up to cost of attendance. All admitted transfer students will automatically be considered for this award after sending their final transcripts to MSU. No additional applications are required.

Trades allow students to get a different type of education that will help them be successful in the career they are choosing. To support trade students pursuing a career in STEM, the Appalachian Region Vocational Scholarship will support students in Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia as they pursue their passions. Industry jobs cannot be overlooked, so this scholarship will encourage students to take their own path toward a trade school education. Students from Kentucky, West Virginia, and Virginia are eligible to apply if they are going to trade school, or a traditional 2 or 4 year college for a STEM career, with a focus on engineering. To apply, students must be a first generation college student currently or looking to study STEM. In your application, write about why you are pursuing the career you have chosen and how you will use your career to make a difference.

The Susan E. Stutz McDonald Scholarship was established in 2017 by the Susan E. Stutz-McDonald Scholarship Foundation. SWE members in their graduate studies pursuing an engineering degree focused on water/wastewater engineering with undergraduate degrees in chemical, civil or environmental engineering focused on water/wastewater engineering are eligible to apply. U.S. citizenship and SWE membership required. US schools only. Minimum GPA of 3.5.

Meredith was born in Nebraska in 1908. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1925. She was the first woman to graduate with a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska in 1929 and a Master of Civil Engineering in 1931. She was a member of Delta Zeta and was elected to two honorary fraternities: Pi Mu Epsilon and Sigma Xi. Meredith left a significant bequest to SWE to fund scholarships. Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors are eligible to apply and the scholarships are renewable for 2 additional years.

BK (as she was always known in SWE) was born on the 4th of July, 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri and passed away in 1989. She received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics from University of Kansas. Throughout her career, she continued her education by taking numerous specialty courses. BK had a large extended family that she cherished. She had a great sense of humor and a special bumper sticker on her car: “Women are leaders, you are following one”

Lydia joined SWE in 1955 as a member of the Pacific Northwest Section and later became a Senior Life Member of SWE and was elected to Fellow grade in 1984. She was chair of the 1962 National Convention in Seattle (the first four-day convention) and served in many other national positions. Lydia was elected as national SWE President for 1968-69. One goal was to visit as many student sections as she could to provide guidance. Lydia participated in at least the first nine International Conventions of Women Engineers and Scientists. Lydia left a bequest to the SWE Scholarship Fund. The Trustees created this scholarship for graduate students. The scholarship is renewable for an additional 4 years.

Yvonne Claeys Brill (1924-2013) was a pioneering propulsion engineer and tireless advocate for women in the engineering profession. Yvonne was married to William F. Brill from 1951 until his death in 2010. They are survived by three children and four grandchildren, all of whom have pursued careers in science and engineering. Additionally, six extended family members followed this pathway. Originally named “The Brill Family Scholarship” to recognize all the technical talent in our family, we have chosen to rename this scholarship to honor Yvonne, who was an inspiration to us all.

The Wanda Munn Scholarship was endowed by the Eastern Washington Section in 2011. Reentry and nontraditional students in any engineering related major is eligible to apply. Geographical preference is giving to students who live in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.

Susan was the backbone and leader of the New York Section for many years. She was an active, reliable grass-roots volunteer. SWE had recently hosted a Regional Conference in New York City and Susan Miszkowicz was the Conference Chair. The theme was “Gearing Up for the New Millennium: Business & Leadership Skills for a Diverse Workforce.” She had served as Vice President of the New York Section, and rose to the position of President before SWE lost her at the age of 38 in the attacks on the World Trade Center. Susan was active in several other organizations such as American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). She served SWE and ASME in many capacities, and was also an active volunteer with a number of other organizations, including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and several animal rescue groups. The scholarship endowment was funded in 2002 by the New York Section and friends in SWE. It honors all the victims.

Mental health issues are among the most common health issues affecting individuals and families today. Mental illness can make it a challenge for families by not only affecting those who suffer directly but also those suffering indirectly. The Elizabeth Schalk Memorial Scholarship will not only help fund a student's education, but will also memorialize Elizabeth Schalk, who suffered from mental illness throughout her life. High school seniors, undergraduates, and graduate students are eligible to apply if they have a mental illness or have been impacted by mental illness in their family. As a way to support African American women through their educational journey, the Dr. Jade Education Scholarship will award students earning a graduate degree while simultaneously working full-time. Black/African American women are eligible to apply if they are earning their graduate degree while also working full-time. The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) Study Abroad Scholarship Program for American Minority Students offers scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students of African American, Hispanic American, and Native American descent to study in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This program supports up to 100 students annually and provides funding to experience a unique study abroad opportunity in a country rich in history and culture.

WTS is dedicated to creating a more diverse, inclusive and equitable transportation industry through the advancement of women. The WTS-NH chapter works to engage, grow and support the next generation of transportation professionals in New Hampshire. One step toward accomplishing this is by awarding the WTS-NH Undergraduate Scholarship to current and past New Hampshire high school students, as well as college students currently studying in New Hampshire. The ARRL Foundation offers scholarships to active FCC-licensed amateur radio operators who are pursuing higher education. These scholarships, ranging from $500 to $25,000, are open to high school seniors, undergraduates, and graduate students in the U.S. and abroad. The ARRL Foundation Scholarship Committee reviews all applications and awards funds directly to recipients' schools.

The Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to carrying on the tireless mission of the late Trib Total Media managing editor to inspire the next generation of journalists to pursue their work with the same unfailing passion and integrity that Jim displayed each day. Each year, Trib Total Media will select one Western Pennsylvania student to receive up to $30,000 in scholarship funds awarded in annual installments of up to $7,500 each. The recipient also will receive a summer internship at Trib Total Media and, upon graduation, an offer for full-time employment.
