Acorn Scholarship

Our scholarships are designed to provide financial support for gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender students, allies, or the children of gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender parents. The 2026 scholarships range from $1,000 to $4,000 with up to $40,000 being disbursed in total.

Eligibilit The applicant must retain permanent residence in the Acorn service area, which includes all Illinois counties except Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will, and attend or plan to attend any accredited post-secondary educational institution.

Scholarships will be awarded in six categories:
1) The Acorn Scholarship is based on academics, volunteerism, and community advocacy.
2) The Central Illinois Friends Scholarship is based on academics and a commitment to public health.
3) The Korty & Morton Scholarship is based on volunteerism, community advocacy, and financial need.

5) The McKeon Scholarship is based on academics, volunteerism, and political advocacy.
6) The Weber-Tucker Scholarship is based on academics and social (or family) hardship.

The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society is pleased to administer the Alliance Medical Education Scholarship for Pennsylvania residents attending a Pennsylvania medical school as a second- or third-year student. To financially assist Pennsylvania residents enrolled in a Pennsylvania medical school, the Pennsylvania Medical Society Alliance established the Alliance Medical Education Scholarship (AMES) Fund in April of 2000. The Alliance ceased in existence in June 2019; however their legacy and commitment to the education of medical students continues through this scholarship.

To be eligible for the Alliance Medical Education Scholarship, applicants must: be a United States Citizen; be a resident of Pennsylvania for at least 12 months before registering as a medical student (not including time spent attending a Pennsylvania undergraduate/graduate school); be a second- or third-year medical student when applying; be enrolled full time in an accredited Pennsylvania medical school; and be a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and county medical society (membership is free). Applications run January 1-February 28.
