The Shant’yl Y Byrd Heart & Hustle Scholarship

The Heart & Hustle scholarship caters to students in Maryland who are majoring in sports management, hospitality, food service or hotel/restaurant management.

General Information and Eligibility Requirements:
•The recipient may be male or female,18 years of age or older, and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited college, university, and/or trade program with at least a part-time enrollment of a minimum of six (6) college credits, or entrepreneurship with a business plan and fore mentioned majors above.
•The application must be completed and received by email at: dsdlegacyfoundation@gmail.com
•The recipient of the Shant`yl Y. Byrd Life Enrichment Scholarship will be announced on Sunday, July 27, 2025, via telephone call, email, an announcement on the DSD Legacy Foundation website and/or other social media platforms.
•The Shant`yl Y. Byrd Heart and Hustle Scholarship must be used toward the payment of tuition, college fees and/or books, trade school, or business start-up expenses only. The $500 scholarship award will be paid by check directly to the accredited college, university, and/or trade school or Maryland Business Express only after validation of full-time or part-time admission for the Fall semester and/or business information is received by October 01, 2025.

A completed application includes:
•A one-to-two-page personal statement to include a professional photograph or in the alternative, a two-to-five minute personal video of the applicant outlining their statement. Please send the statement or video to: dsdlegacyfoundation@gmail.com, Attention: Scholarship Committee.
•Two letters of recommendation (Letters from family members are not acceptable).
•Resume and/or previous college transcript.
•A minimum of 125 hours indicating Community Service hours or Outreach affiliations.
