Kids’ Chance of Maine is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides scholarships for children of workers that have been seriously injured or killed in a compensable work-related accident or occupational disease. Scholarships are awarded once a year and students may apply every year for which they are eligible. Current annual scholarship amounts range from $1,000 to $5,000 (the number of awards will vary) and are determined based on the student’s financial need. Applicants must be: Between 16-22 years old at the time of the application; Child who is a dependent of a worker seriously injured or killed in a compensable work-related accident or occupational disease with an employer over whom the Maine Workers’ Compensation Board has jurisdiction; Demonstrated financial need to pay for post-secondary education; and Accepted or already enrolled at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or technical school. The American Indian Medical Scholarship (AIMS) gives students of American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Hawaiian Native descent the opportunity to pursue careers in nursing, healthcare, and health education. The scholarship is specifically designed to assist students who, following graduation, plan to work on reservations or in hospitals that serve Native populations with the goal of improving healthcare within those communities. The Descendants Truth & Reconciliation Foundation (DTRF) has created a scholarship program to provide post-secondary scholarships to Descendants of Jesuit and Catholic slaveholding (Descendants) in the United States (Program). The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) will administer the Program funded by the DTRF. The Program will provide annual, need-based (i.e., cost of tuition and associated fees) scholarships of up to $10,000 to Descendants to assist them with their college expenses.

The Joy and Justice in Mathematics Teaching and Learning (J-Squared) Project is a collaboration of the Wheelock College of Education and Human Development and the College of Arts and Sciences at Boston University and school districts in the Boston area. This program focuses on preparing teachers to facilitate meaningful mathematical discourse in the classroom while simultaneously increasing students’ critical consciousness of issues of racism and other social injustices. J-Squared scholars experience a rich, hands-on, inquiry-based teacher preparation program and work closely with teachers, mathematics educators, mathematicians and students. The J-Squared Project provides 100% tuition scholarships to individuals with backgrounds either in mathematics or related STEM fields to a one-year Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree program. The degree program leads to licensure to teach secondary mathematics. Once teaching, J-Squared scholars will be supported through summer and academic-year workshops, seminars, and mentoring. J-Squared Noyce scholars must: have an undergraduate degree in mathematics or related field; be a US citizen, national or permanent resident alien; and commit to teach for two years in a high-need district upon successful completion of the teacher certification program. The maximum dollar amounts will differ, and deadlines will also vary.
